Moong Dal : 3/4 cup
Basmathi/Long grain rice : 3/4 cup
Onion : 1 no
(chopped)
Potato (medium size) : 1 nos
(chopped)
Carrot (medium size) : 1 no
(chopped)
Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida : 1 pinch
Green chillies : 3 nos
(chopped thin)
Salt : to taste
Water : 2 cups
Oil : 1 tbsp
Directions:
1. Wash dal and rice together and keep aside. 2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. 3. Add cumin seeds stir fry for a few seconds, followed by onions and chillies and stir for 1-2 minutes. 4. Add cut vegetables, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt along with water. 5. Pressure cook upto 1 whistle. 6. :- Serve hot!!!! 7. ps: You can even omit onions, cumin seeds, green chillies and the oil and just simply pressure cook all the rest of ingredients. You could also add any vegetable of your choice. It even works without the vegetables!
The authentic dal rice looks mashed for which you could add another cup of water, but i prefer it not mashed much!

Step 1

Wash dal and rice together and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker.

Step 3

Add cumin seeds stir fry for a few seconds, followed by onions and chillies and stir for 1-2 minutes.

Step 5

:- Serve hot!!!!
