Easy Rasam

Ingredients

Garlic pods(crushed) - 2 - 3 nos
Rasam powder - 2 tbsp
(chopped)
Dry red chillies(Kollamulaku) - 1 no (broken into 2 pieces)

DIRECTIONS

Step 1. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a heavy bottom pan.
Step 2. Add mustard seeds and when they crackle, add red chillies and saute for a while.
Step 3. Add crushed garlic and stir for a minute.
Step 4. Add chopped tomatoes and salt and stir, till the tomatoes blend well.
Step 5. Add turmeric and rasam powder and stir for a few seconds.
Step 6. Add the tamarind paste and mix well.
Step 7. Add curry leaves, coriander leaves and water.
Step 8. Boil rasam on low flame for about 7 - 10 mins.
Step 9. Finally, you can sprinkle asafoetida powder(optional).
Step 10. :- Asafoetida is usually contained in Rasam Powder.
Step 11. :- Serve rasam hot with rice.
Step 12. :- You can also drink rasam like a soup.
Step 13. :- Rasam is ready.

Instead of rasam powder, you can also use a mixture of red chilli powder, coriander powder, and pepper according to your taste and a pinch of jeera powder, pinch of fenugreek powder, and bit of asafoetida.

Nice and a fast way to make rasam. Try adding some cumin seeds when seasoning....quite fast to do and retains the thickness even a day after.
