Tender jackfruit(Idichakka) : 1/2 kg
(chopped into fine pieces)
Dry red chillies(Kollamulaku) : 5 nos
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
Salt : As reqd
Grated coconut : 1 cup
Small onions(Kunjulli) : 3 nos
Curry leaves : 1 sprig
For seasoning:
Oil : 5 tbsp
Gram : 2 tsp
Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
Dry red chillies(Kollamulaku) : 4 nos
Curry leaves : 5 nos
Directions:
1. Grind together the red chillies and turmeric powder well. 2. Cook the vegetable along with the ground mixture, salt and water. 3. When the jack fruit is cooked, mash the pieces. 4. Grind together coconut, small onions and curry leaves. 5. Heat oil in a pan or a kadai. 6. Add gram and mustard seeds. 7. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the red chillies and curry leaves. 8. Add the jackfruit strands and the ground coconut mixture. 9. Saute ithe mix well. 10. Cover the pan and allow it to cook. 11. :- Serve with rice. 12. :- When you use canned jackfruit, drain the water in it and run the vegetable through cold water. This will remove excess sodium.
