  • 1)Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  • 2)Add chopped onion and saute till golden brown.
  • 3)Cool it and grind it finely in a mixer grinder along with tamarind, chilly powder and salt.
  • 4)Heat oil in the same pan.
  • 5)Add asafoetida.
  • 6)When the smell comes, add mustard seeds.
  • 7)When it splutters, add red chillies and curry leaves.
  • 8)Add the onion paste and stir.
  • 9)Boil and check the level of salt.
  • 10)Switch off the fire and add the piece of jaggery and stir in.
  • :- Serve hot with idli or dosa.

    thanx lakshmi.....its really finger licking!!!my husband who doesnt like idli much ate 5 idlis with this mouthwatering chutney...
