  • 1)Heat oil in a pan.
  • 2)Add asafoetida and splutter mustard seeds.
  • 3)Add red chillies and curry leaves and saute.
  • 4)Place the washed rice and daal followed by water in a pressure cooker.
  • 5)Add salt and the seasoning into the cooker and mix well.
  • 6)Keep the above mixed rice in the cooker for 4 whistles.
  • 7)After 4 whistles, take the pongal out.
  • 8)Pour ghee on top.
  • :- Serve hot with the sambaar.
