  • 1)Heat the rava till it becomes light brown and keep it aside.
  • 2)Heat the ghee and fry the mustard seeds.
  • 3)Add curry leaves, chopped onions, slit chillies, crushed ginger and coriander leaves to it and fry for 2 minutes.
  • 4)Add 2 and a half cups of water and the reqd salt and leave it to boil.
  • 5)Add rava to the boiling water little by little, stirring the water properly.
  • 6)Cook until it is soft and thick.
  • :- Upma is ready.
  • :- Serve upma hot with coconut chutney.

    Hi Pinky ..u sure have a lot o recipes...I am(was) a hobbyist myself..now that i am working i dont get 2 try out new items..this recipe is one of my favourites..as a friday morning special(holiday)..i just top it with bullseye fried in butter and...:)

    Very true vamsi, that way upma is crispier also and soft also. We should add semolina first and then water..

    A nice variation is to add 1 grated carrot after sauteing the onions & green chillies; even very tender french beans (3-4) chopped fine added to this tastes nice.To make it rich you can add nuts & raisins while frying these. I find it better to add pre roasted semolina to the fried veggies,stir for a minute & pour boiling water into it.( 2 cups water for 1cup semolina).Simmer covered for 2 minutes. Then open & stir gently.(try & comment )
