Ingredients for Kadala Curry for Puttu and Appam Recipe

Kadala(Black channa) - 1 Nazhi
Onion(big) - 1 no
Shallots(Kunjulli) - 7 nos
Garlic pods - 5 nos
(chopped)
Red chillies - 8 nos
Coconut kotthu - 1/2 of one
(finely sliced into small pieces)
Red chilly powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
Coriander powder - 3 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
(avoid adding too much mustards as its not good for eye sight)
Curry leaves - 3 big stems
Coconut oil - 3 tbsp
Water - As reqd
Salt - As reqd

:- Do not add salt while cooking kadala. You can add it towards the end.




Preparation Method of Kadala Curry for Puttu and Appam Recipe
1)Heat 1 tbsp of coconut oil in a pressure cooker. 2)Add onion, dry red chillies cut into two pieces, garlic, coconut kotthu, kadala( channa)and about 4 glasses or more water. 3)Cook upto 12 whistles. 4)Add coriander powder, chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt and cook for 5 mins on a medium flame. 5)Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan. 6)Splutter mustard seeds. 7)Add 2 tbsp of coconut kotthu and shallots and saute it till it becomes slight golden brown. 8)Add 3 stems of curry leaves and add this to the kadala curry.

Comments	Don`t forget to soak the kadala overnight in water or atleast soak it in hot water for 4 hours before cooking it.Else you will have hard time getting it well-cooked.Also adding salt after the kadala is cooked will help!
