Ingredients

Directions

Step 1

Extract 1 cup of thick milk from grated coconut using 1 cup of water.

Step 2

Add 3/4 cup of water to the same coconut and extract 3/4 cup of thin coconut milk.

Step 3

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan.

Step 4

Roast together coriander seeds, chillies, garlic, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and peppercorns.

Step 5

Grind them into a paste adding 1/2 cup of water.

Step 6

Heat remaining oil in a pan or a cooker.

Step 7

Add onion and fry, till golden brown.

Step 8

Add the ground masala and stir for 2 - 3 mins.

Step 9

Add the cleaned mutton, salt and turmeric powder and stir fry for 5 mins.

Step 10

Add thin coconut milk and stir.

Step 11

Close the cooker and bring it to full pressure.

Step 12

Reduce the flame and cook for 12 mins.

Step 13

Remove the cooker from heat and allow it to cool naturally.

Step 14

After opening the lid, add the thick coconut milk.

Step 15

Cook, till the gravy becomes thick.

Step 16

Heat ghee in a pan or a kadai for a minute.

Step 17

Add coconut pieces and curry leaves and stir fry, till the coconut turns golden brown.

Step 18

Pour it over the curry.

Step 19

:- Serve hot.

Wow, Thanks for this recipe. I was going to prepare mutton for the second time in my life, where first time had ruined my desire to cook mutton at all;and this time I dint want to repeat that. I tried this one, and shud say I fell in love with this spicy, yet light recipe. My hubby who usually avoids spicy food, liked this very much and our guest too. Thanks Rajam, for such a nice recipe.
