Directions

Step 1

Soak the rice for 4-5 hrs.

Step 2

Grind together raw rice, cooked rice, coconut water & grated coconut to a smooth batter of dosa consistency.

Step 3

In the mean time mix the yeast, 2 tbsp sugar in the warm milk & keep aside after 15 mins. The yeast will rise.

Step 4

Mix the yeast mixture to the batter.

Step 5

Keep the batter to rise.

6)Before making appams, add salt as desired & sugar (if required) and stir well.

Step 6

Heat non-stick appachatti.

Step 7

Pour one big spoon of the batter, rotate the pan and close with lid.

Step 8

When the steam starts coming out, open the lid and take out the appam.

Instead of cooked rice you can use rice flakes too..

it came out sooooooo soft!!!!!!!!!!! thank u soooooooooooo much....please try to post idiyappam recepe....i dont know idiyappam dough s consistency...plzzzzzzz tell me that.........thnks again

This was the recipe i was searching for since long , I thank you.Anyways by warm milk do u mean coconut cows Milk. Can i use raw rice or is Basmathi better

Cud u pl inform - if we cud take any raw rice or does it hv to be the rice u mentioned in your recipe without altering the outcome. - Regarding 1 coconut, cud u pl grate a coconut and inform us in terms of cups or better still some weight measurements (U.S. or metric system) We do have freshly grated coconut in packets readily available here. - If i choose to omit the coconut water, what can be the substitute? i am aware that originally appam was made using toddy; yes, we don`t have that here in the US. Pl inform. I would love to try out this recipe after receiving your clarifications. - can i use this recipe for making Goan/Mangalorean Sannas (vattaka appams)? Thanks - amala
