Step 1

Cook dal in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder and salt

Step 2

:- If you are not using a pressure cooker soak the dal in water for about an hour before you cook it.

Step 3

Heat oil in another pan.

Step 4

Splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

Step 5

Add asafoetida powder and sautT.

Step 6

Add ginger, garlic and chilies and sautT for a few seconds.

Step 7

Add the diced onions, tomatoes and salt and continue sautTing.

Step 8

Add the cooked dal to this mixture and simmer for a few mins.

Step 9

:- Add water if it¦s too thick.

Step 10

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Step 11

:- Serve hot with bread or rice or you can even serve it as soup

Step 12

:- If you want to make it spicier you can try adding a dash of garam masala while its simmering.

This is a super easy and an excellent recipe. I used small onions instead of the large one and also fried red dried chillies along with the mustard.
