Step 1

For preparing dates chutney, first soak tamarind in little water and add jaggery. Sieve and collect the tamarind extract.

Step 2

Heat gingelly oil and splutter mustard and fenugreek seeds.

Step 3

Add onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and saute for a few minutes.

Step 4

Lower the flame and add chilly powder, tamarind extract and required salt.

Step 5

Finally, add minced dates and cook in low fire until done. Remove from fire and allow it to cool. Dates chutney, an apt side dish for biriyani is ready.

Step 6

When dates chutney has cooled down, store in a glass bottle and refrigerate for longer period of storage.
