For preparing rice:1)Heat ghee in a pan.
Add cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and black peppercorns. Stir them.
Add onions and fry for 5 min.
Add rice and stir for 5 min.
Pour boiled water along with salt and cook till it done.
For making fish masala:1)Marinate fish pieces with chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt for 1 hour.
Fry the marinated fish pieces in oil.
Heat the same oil used to fry the fish in a pan.
Add sliced onions and fry on a low flame, till it becomes slightly brown.
On medium flame, add ginger-garlic-green chilly paste and tomato.
Stir it for 6 min.
Add garam masala powder,curd, coconut milk, coriander leaves and salt and stir it for 5 min.
Add fried fish pieces and reduce the flame.
Cook till it starts to boil.
For making fish biriyani:1)Take a deep bottom vessel and layer rice and fish masala.
Pour 2 tbsp of ghee and tightly cover with a lid.
Keep it on a very low flame for 10 min.
Garnish with roasted nuts and raisins.
:- We can use fish with not much bones like tuna, salmon, akoli.........etc, but it will be tastier when we use king fish.:- Pour 2tsp of pineapple essence or some small pieces of pineapple before putting the lid on.it will give a very nice smell:-YES! you can use prawns or chicken instead of fish:-you can use canned coconut milk or coconut powder

First time i tried to make fish biryani using your recipe and i got many compliments. Its a yummy and easy recipe!
Biryani is great always, this is nice simple recipe and faster too becuase the rice is not cooked in the moisture. To make it better add yogurt (and of course adjust seasoning to your own taste) and bake( well sealed and around 160C) in oven, with half cooked rice (or even totalyl uncooked). This way you absorb mroe flavour in to the rice, but will take a lot longer to cook:)
I was not so sure how it would turn out but I was pleasantly surprised.
tried this recipe and came out verywell. i dont know why sherin had made such a comment. u can use ur own quantity of spices and can also vary the amount of use of ghee according to ur taste, if u r well versed in cooking. the taste was really superb.

Very good recipe if you are looking for a change from the usual chicken/mutton biriyanis. I prefer to reduce the oil and extra ghee in the recipe otherwise it will turn out far too greasy. Also, leave out the raisins as the taste clashes with the fish.

Small suggestion, I feel for 3 cups of rice 6 cups water is more...If you want the rice to be separated, then for 3 cups of rice, 4 1/2 cup water is enough. Anyway, Let me try and update it.

This is a great recipe.It turned out very well,everybody enjoyed it.One thing i found is that the recipe doesn`t say when to add the garam masala.But since it was written in the gravy part of ingredients i just put it just before the gravy was complete.Anyway thank you for the recipe,we all loved it.

Note: while frying fish try to not fry crispy. Rather it should be just fried. Also, add a cup of chopped coriander and mint leaves to the gravy just before u add the fried fish. In my preparatio i add a paste of green chilli and coriander/mint paste to the gravy. That comes out well also. Try this if someone is looking for a variation.

I have been looking for a recipe for fish biriyani and found this one. Excellent came out really well. I tried some variations. I made the fish and the gravy and to which added cooked and drained pasta. It came out good as well. Pachakam has turned out to be one of my favorite site for recipes.

If you use the best basmati long rice and fresh king fish or Hamoor fish, this is the best reduced fat biriyani you can make.
Add 2 spoonfuls of after frying the fish it gives a sour but excellent taste to the dish.
