Ingredients

  • Idiyenchakka (Tender Jackfruit) - 1 small size
    Chopped Onion - ½ cup
    Red Chilli Powder - 2 tspns
    Turmeric Powder - ½ tspn
    Curry leaves - 8 – 10 leaves
    Grated Coconut - ½ cup
    Blackgram Dhal - 2 tspns
    Coconut/Refined Oil - 4 tspns
    Salt - To taste

Cut the Idiyenchakka (Tender Jackfruit) into pieces and peel them

Again cut the peeled Idiyenchakka into small pieces

Change the Idiyenchakka pieces into a cooking vessel and add required quantity of water along with half-a teaspoon Turmeric Powder and cook it for about 20 – 30 minutes in medium flame

When the Idiyenchakka pieces are cooked well, remove the water from it using a filter
and allow to cool it for about 10 minutes

Crush the pieces as shown in the below picture

Heat Oil in a frying pan (Kadaai) and add the Blackgram dhal into the oil

Also add the chopped Onion, Curry leaves and Red Chilli Powder and stir the mix

When the colour of the mix turns into golden, add the crushed Idiyenchakka

Also add the grated Coconut and stir the mix for 2-3 minutes

Idiyenchakka Thoran is ready and it can be served as a side dish for Chappathi/cooked rice etc.
