Mambazha Pulissery as the names denotes, is a mildly sweetened and tangy flavored traditional curry dish prepared from mangoes and curd. The curry dish is served as an accompaniment with rice for noon day meals. Also termed Manga Pulissery, this is a very delicious dish quite popular in Sadhya menu and feasts. The sweet and sour flavored mango curry dish is a lip smacking dish. Mangoes are in plenty during the summer season and you can get it very economical and cheap. The uniqueness of Manga Pulissery is that you are using partially ripe mangoes for the dish. Almost all houses in Kerala have mango trees in their backyard. Mangoes become ripe fast and to avoid wastage this is a novel method to consume them. The partially sweet and spicy flavored dish suits your palate well. Kids love the mildly sweet curry dish and this is a favorite dish with my family.

Pulissery, in general from Kerala cuisine is a spiced buttermilk/yoghurt based curry cooked with spices and coconut. The ingredients that goes into this curry vary region wise but this is the usual Mambazha Pulissery. Mambazha Pulissery is an easy to prepare dish in Kerala Cuisine that requires very little ingredients. It is the sprinkling of fenugreek seeds powder in the end, that adds an extra zing to the dish. Mangoes are very nutritious and they beat the summer well and cools down the body. Mangoes are rich in vital nutrients required for the body.   • Cut the mango into pieces and boil in water along with turmeric, green chillies, chilly powder and salt.
  • Grind the coconut with the cumin seeds to a fine paste and add this to the boiling mango.
  • Bring this to a boil and take off the flame.
  • Blend the yoghurt to make it smooth and add this to the mixture.
  • : See to it that the yoghurt does not split.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and when they crackle, add red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Add the above seasoning to the above mango curry and mix well.
  • Sprinkle fenugreek powder and mix well again.
  • :- Serve the sweet and sour dish with rice.
