Bengali: Laban / Noone
Soak basmati rice in water for almost 1 hour.
Put the soaked basmati rice, boiled rice, desiccated coconut, water and sugar in the mixer and grind, till smooth( like dosas consistency).
Pour this in a large bowl and add yeast and mix well.
Leave this for around 4 - 5 hours or till the mixture rises.
Add salt to this mixture and mix well.
Heat a tawa or nonstick vellappa chatty and make yummy vellappams.
:- Serve hot with chicken curry.

I should honestly same...this came out awsum!!! it is difficult to get fresh coconut here and really did not expect desicated coconut could bring out so soft appams. It was really easy and worth the try. Have made it twice now. I did not have appachattis and made on dosa pan..still it came out soft and puffy!! Thanks a lot for this recipe!!
My husband loved it.As we stay in uk, I had vellapam on dosa kallu. But the taste remained all the same to vallappam.Also, I used baking powder instead of yeast. Anyhow, the dish turned out so well that my husband kept on having it inspite of his stomach being full. Thanks for the receipe.
