Step 1

For preparing kerala urad dal vada, soak split black gram for two hours.

Step 2

Wash the split black gram and grind with green chillies, curry leaves, asafoetida, pepper powder and salt.

Step 3

Kindly ensure that no water is added. You should be able to get a thick dough.

Step 4

Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan.

Step 5

Take spoonfuls of the vada mixture and add it into the hot oil.

Step 6

Immediately, make a hole in the center of the batter with a steel stick or back of a steel spoon.(This should be done in the hot oil to get the shape right)

7)Kerala urad dal vadas are ready. Serve hot with chutney for breakfast.
