Ney pathiri aka Ney pathal or deep fried rice rotti is a very common breakfast / dinner dish in northern Kerala especially in Kozhikkode and Malabar. Malabar chicken curry, mutton curry and beef curry are nice combo for this dish.

Step 1 Neypathiri (Deep Fried Rice Roti) Recipe

Step 1

Mix both the flours together. Boil water along with salt, when it starts to boil add chopped shallots, fennel seeds, grated coconut and slowly add the flour with constant stirring. Keep it in simmer for 5 - 10 seconds and turn off the flame.

Knead the dough thoroughly with your hands until it becomes smooth.

Roll out small portion of the dough into lime sized ball.

Using chapathi press /pathiri press flatten each balls into thick disc. (like pooris)

Heat oil in a pan, drop each pathiris to it.When they starts puffing up, flip them and fry until they become crispy.

Serve it hot with chicken curry or any curries. Enjoy!
