Step 1

For preparing spicy gooseberry curry, first heat some oil in a pan and saute gooseberries until cooked. Add shallots and green chillies and fry for a while. Remove the fried gooseberries and keep aside.

Step 2

Meanwhile, grind the ingredients: grated coconut, chilly powder, turmeric, mustard seeds and garlic to a fine paste.

Step 3

Heat the oil and splutter fenugreek and curry leaves.

Step 4

Add the ground masala and fry well until oil accumulates on top.

Step 5

Add fried gooseberries, shallots and green chillies. Pour required tamarind extract, asafoetida powder, vinegar and salt.

Step 6

Boil the curry and simmer till thick and done.

Step 7

Add sugar and remove spicy gooseberry curry from fire.
