Step 1

Boil water in a pan.

Step 2

Add chilly powder and asafoetida.

Step 3

Make a paste of rice flour and add to the boiling water stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

Step 4

Add salt to taste.

Step 5

Keep stirring, till it thickens.

Step 6

:- Alternatively, pour the boiling water into the flour and mix with spoon.

Step 7

Allow it to cool.

Step 8

Roll into small balls of the size of marbles.

Step 9

:- Apply a little oil on your hands while doing so.

Step 10

Steam the balls for 5 minutes.

Step 11

Allow it to cool.

Step 12

Heat oil in a pan.

Step 13

Add mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.

Step 14

Add the rice balls and stir.

Step 15

:- Serve hot.

very tasty i am surprised by the ignorance of lb regarding asafoetida,think she didnt see kitchen when she was young YES YOU CAN GET ASAFOETIDA IN ANY DECENT INDIAN SHOP IN USA

asafoetida powder is called "kaayam" in malayalam, and "hing" in hindi....

good recipe of kozhukkatta. PC: the one that goes with chicken curry is `Pidi" which is the dish of sathya kristhyani in and around moovattupuzha,perumbavur etc.

In fact u can do this other way soak rice in water and grind with small Onion(cheriya ulli) ,jeera and salt .And the rest as u mentioned. steam. Try it . Let me know if this is good. I can give u more recepie if u want.Chicken(made with coconut)curry will be go with this
