Step 1

For preparing sukhi bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele, first soak chana dal in water for one hour.

Step 2

Rinse and add 1 1/2 cup water, turmeric and required salt to chana dal and cook in medium heat until chana dal is just cooked. Remove from fire and keep aside.

Step 3

Heat ghee in a pan and saute cinnamon, clove, bay leaf, cumin seeds and cayenne pepper for a few seconds.

Step 4

Add chopped onion and fry till brown.

Step 5

Stir in cooked chana dal and mix gently. Cook covered in low heat for 5 more minutes.

Step 6

Sukhi bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele is ready. Sprinkle lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.

Step 7

Mix well and serve chana dal hot with rice or parathas.
