Indri Appam or Inri Appam signifies Monte Thursday and the ritualistic cutting of cake. Monte Thursday commemorates washing of Lords feet by disciples, the day before Crucifixion. Also termed Kurisu Appam , the cake is seen decorated with a cross sign. Traditionally, the head of the family cuts the indri appam and dips in the Paalukurukku syrup and serves it to the other family members. Hence the appam also termed Paalukurukku Appam.
