  • Basmathi rice(soaked in water for 20 minutes) – 1cup
  • Split chickpeas(soaked in water for overnight, Kadala parippu) – 1/2cup
  • Onion(finely cubed) – 1no
  • Green chilly(split) – 1no
  • Asafoetida powder(A pinch, Kaayam) –
  • Curry leaves 2springs
  • Coriander leaves(chopped) – 2springs
  • Water(As reqd) –
  • Ghee 3tbsp
  • Salt(As reqd) –
  1. For preparing chickpeas rice, heat ghee in a pan, add asafoetida, onion, split chickpeas, green chilly and water. Allow the split chickpeas to cook with required water till half done.
  2. When the split chickpeas is half cooked, add rice, curry leaves, 3 cups of water and salt. Allow it to cook on low flame till done and then remove it from the flame.
  3. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  4. Chickpeas rice is ready. Serve hot with any gravy.
