Tasty Konju(Shrimp) Thoran
A very tasty Shrimp item with all flavours of Kerala.

  • Shrimps(Konju) – 2lb
  • small red onions(cut in half or quarters , Kunjulli) – 1/2cup
  • Water 1/2cup
  • Salt(As reqd) –
*You can make ur own garam masala too by grinding together the following:-
  • Cardamom(Elakka) – 5nos
  • Cloves(Grambu) – 5nos
  • Aniseeds(Perinjeerakam) – 5nos
  • Cinnamon(Karugapatta) –
  • Nutmeg etc –
  1. Clean the shrimp and if you want u cut the shrimp into halves dep on the size of the shrimp.
  2. To the shrimp, add the ingredients mentioned for cooking and cook the shrimp with red onions and all ingredients for say 15 – 20 mins.
  3. Meanwhile, grind the ingredients mentioned for the gravy in a blender and keep aside.
  4. Once the shrimp is cooked and the gravy is made, add the dry gravy to the cooked shrimp and let the shrimp cook slow in this dry gravy for 5 – 10 more minutes.
  5. :- Once you feel that the shrimp is cooked well and the masala is well absorbed in
  6. Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  7. Splutter mustard seeds and saute with red chillies and curry leaves.
  8. Add the saute to the cooked shrimp – dry gravy and you are done.
