Unakka Chemmeen Chammanthi is a spicy dried chutney, a very popular chammanthi dish in Kerala, that goes well with rice and gruel. This chutney comes in handy when you are out of stock and you want something red and spicy that goes well with rice. Unakka Chemmeen Chammanthi is prepared by blending together dried prawns with tangy tamarind, red chillies and other spicy aromatic ingredients. Instructions
  1. For preparing the delicious chammanthi dish, first clean prawns and remove head and tail.
  2. Dry roast prawns, coconut and chillies separately. While frying take care that the ingredients do not get burnt. Burning of ingredients will destroy the taste and flavor of the dish. Fry in low heat.
  3. Prawns should turn golden brown and crispy. Add a tsp of oil while frying chillies. First coarsely powder the prawns. Keep it in a plate. Mix together coconut, shallots and chillies in mixer. Coarsely powder them.
  4. Mix all together in the plate with hand. Add little salt. Press it with hand. Tasty chammanthi dish is ready. This is a very tasty and spicy chammanthi that goes well with rice and gruel. No other side dishes required when you are short of time. Enjoy the dish with your family.
