Easy Onion Murukku

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Bengal gram dal Kadala mavu
  • 2 cups All purpose flour Maida
  • 1/2 cup Shallots Kunjulli
  • 3/4 cup Coconut grated
  • 1/2 tsp Asafoetida powder Kayam
  • 1 tsp Chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 1/2 dsp Sesame seeds Ellu
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Oil For frying
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing onion murukku, first tie kadala mavu and maida loosely in a piece of cloth.
  • Steam the flour mixture for a few minutes. Remove from fire and sieve it when cool.
  • Grind grated coconut, cumin seeds and shallots together.
  • Add the coconut mixture, asafoetida, chilly powder, turmeric powder and sesame seeds to the sieved flour. Knead with enough salted water to make a smooth dough.
  • Using a presser, press the murukku into heated oil and deep fry until crisp.
  • Easy onion murukku, an evening time snack is ready. Enjoy.
