Kadala And Chena Kootu Curry

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 kg Black channa soaked in water over night
  • 1 cup Yam / chena chopped
  • 1 cup Ash gourd chopped, Kumblanga
  • 1 cup Coconut grated
  • 1 tsp Chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt As reqd
  • Coconut oil As reqd
  • Curry leaves Few
  • 1 tsp Sugar

For grinding:

  • 1/2 cup Coconut
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 6 nos Pepper corns

Instructions
 

  • For preparing Kootu curry, first cook channa with required salt and keep aside.
  • Grind together coconut, Cumin seeds and pepper corns. Keep this aside.
  • In a vessel cook yam, ash gourd with chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  • When the vegetables are done, add the ground paste of coconut and cook for 5 minutes more.
  • In a pan, add little oil. Fry mustard, curry leaves and grated coconut.
  • Fry till coconut becomes dark brown in color.
  • Now mix together Channa, cooked vegetables and grated coconut well.
  • At last point add little sugar and remove from flame.
  • Kadala and chena kootu curry is ready.
