Dabeli is a popular street food which originated in Kutch region of Gujarat. You will discover the spicy, tangy and sweet flavored snack in Mumbai too among street vendors. Dabeli is also termed 'kutchi dabeli' as well as 'kachchhi dabeli'. Pav buns are stuffed with the spicy stuffing. This is a very popular snack that goes well with tea. The snack is very easy to prepare and is a hot favorite among street vendors.

  • To make tamarind chutney, take tamarind pulp. Add chilli powder, salt and jaggery and cook till the gravy becomes thick. The mixture should not be watery but thick and viscous.
  • Add black salt and cumin powder and keep it aside.
  • Fry and grind the coriander seeds, cinnamon, cloves and pepper together.
  • Boil the potato, peel and mash well.
  • Add the ground masala, salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder, a few coriander leaves with the mashed potatoes and mix well.
  • Add some water and cook for few seconds. The mixture should be well blended.
  • In a plate, arrange the potatoes. Put the fried ground nut over the potatoes. Spread the pomegranate, sev [mixture], chopped onion, tomato and coriander leaves.
  • Slice the pav buns into half horizontally.
  • Spread 1 tsp tamarind chutney inside of this pav and fill the above potato mixture.
  • Heat butter in a tava.
  • Place the filled pav on it and fry till it turns light golden brown on both sides. Serve the pav buns with stuffing hot. Enjoy the tasty and unique snack with a cup of hot tea.
