Step 1

For preparing easy apple pie, place the flour and butter into a bowl and rub the butter into the flour.

Step 2

Mix in the rest of the ingredients: icing sugar, egg yolk and cold milk. Knead briefly on a lightly floured work surface, then leave to rest for 30 minutes.

Step 3

Roll out and line a pie dish and bake blind at 400 F(200 C) for 18 to 20 mins to get the pie shell.

Step 4

Cook the chopped apple with lemon juice, ground cinnamon, sugar and water till apples are translucent.

Step 5

Crumble the cake and add this to the apple mix.

Step 6

Spread a thin layer of jam in the baked pie-case and fill with apple-cake mix and press it down.

Step 7

Dot it with the butter.
Roll out the remaining pastry and cut into strips and decorate the top of the pie.

Step 8

Brush it with a mix of egg white, sugar and milk.

Step 9

Bake till the top is golden brown in colour.
