Step 1

Clean the prawns.

Step 2

Grind together aniseeds, cumin seeds, coconut, chilly powder, salt and small onions to a paste.

Step 3

Marinate the prawns with the above paste and refrigerate it for an hour.

Step 4

Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a frying pan,

Step 5

Add 4 - 5 sprigs of curry leaves.

Step 6

Add the marinated prawns to the pan and stir it continuously to avoid getting it burnt at the bottom of the pan.

Step 7

Close the pan occasionally with a lid, in order to cook the prawns.

Step 8

Add more curry leaves and stir it regularly, till the prawns are covered with the masala.

Step 9

:- Serve with Kerala Style Prawns Masala Fry white rice.

Step 10

:- The more the curry leaves, the better the dish will taste.


Outstanding recipe.....the whole family loved it. Very easy to make, but very tasty too. I took suggestions from fellow commenters and added a pinch of garam masala powder, some lemon juice and a dash of pepper. Looking to show off my culinary skills to guests by cooking this recipe. let me thank Smitha for this wonderful recipe and also my friend Teena for letting me know of this website.But like Mr. Raj has suggested a pinch of garam masala would give a better flavour.I had also added 1/2 a lime`s juice to it.My husband really loved this recipe.Thanks a lot.


this recipe was really good, it took some time for the prawns to get cooked, but the result was excellent. my husband loved it. thanks a lot. i am always worried about cooking seafood, but this trial was a great success. expecting more recipes from you.


Fry until it is very brown. I also added little bit garam masala. It is very nice. A totally different taste.

This receipe is excellent and well Descriptionibed to it`s exact detail. Though I`m a Maharastrian now settled in California, I experiment with various food styles and Kerala style food is my fondest.
