Simple and tasty sambhar for a grand Sadhya

Step 1

Heat up a pressure cooker.

Step 2

Add the cleaned red gram along with chopped onions and small onions.

Step 3

Pressure cook upto 2 whistles.

Step 4

Place the chopped vegetables along with salt and turmeric powder in a vessel and allow it to cook.

Step 5

When it is half done, add the chopped lady¦s fingers, chopped tomatoes and slit green chillies and cook again.

Step 6

When done, add the tamarind extract and mix well.

Step 7

Add the cooked dhal mixture and mix again.

Step 8

Allow it to boil.

Step 9

Meanwhile, heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan or a kadai.

Step 10

Add the asafoetida piece and fry it well. Keep it aside.

Step 11

Add fenugreek seeds, coriander seeds, dry red chillies and a few curry leaves and fry.

Step 12

:- Make sure it doesn¦t get fried too much.

Step 13

Allow it to cool and grind it to a powder in a mixer grinder.

Step 14

Add it to the boiling sambhar and mix well.

Step 15

Add a little coriander leaves too at this stage. (optional)

Step 16

Simmer for a while and when it starts to thicken, remove from the flame.

Step 17

Heat oil in a small pan.

Step 18

Splutter mustard seeds and sautT dry red chillies, curry leaves and finely chopped small onions.

Step 19

Add the above seasoning into the sambhar and mix well.

Step 20

Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well again.

Step 21

:- You can adjust the quantity of asafoetida and coriander leaves accdg to your taste.
