Step 1

Mince the tomatoes and keep aside.

Step 2

Heat some oil in a pan or a kadai.

Step 3

Splutter mustard seeds and then add curry leaves.

Step 4

Add the minced tomatoes and saute it for some time till they are a soft and mushy.

Step 5

Add diluted coconut milk and heat it, stirring it occasionally.

Step 6

Add the rasam powder and chilly powder and stir it.

Step 7

Let it boil and make sure it doesnt split.

Step 8

Add the coriander leaves and let it continue boiling.

Step 9

Take it off the stove and then add salt to taste.

Step 10

:- You can adjust the rasam powder according to the spiciness of the powder that you are using.

Step 11

:- Serve with steaming white rice or ghee rice.


This recipe was a very interesting twist to the traditional Rasam. I tried it out yesterday and it went very well with the veg and meat dishes.

HI Nalini, If you dont add salt till the end,it wont split,but make sure that you keep stirring the mixture often.Use MTR`s Rasam powder and it will be a little bit sour. DO Not add tamarind juice as it is not necessary. Lime juice also should not be added as it will make the milk split. Thanks Mridula


How do you ensure the coconut milk doesn`t split? Don`t we need to add a little tamarind juice? Thanks.
