Naadan ishtu in North Kerala - excellent combination for Idli or Appam

Step 1

Remove the skin of potato and slice into squares.

Step 2

Slice the onion into thin sections.

Step 3

Slit the green chillies lengthwise.

Step 4

:- Depending on hotness required, u can increase / decrease no. of chillies.

Step 5

Slice the ginger into thin sections.

Step 6

:- You can add half of a tomato sliced for tanginess, if u like.

Step 7

Pressure cook the above ingredients with salt and just sufficient water or second milk extract of coconut.

Step 8

Meanwhile, extract coconut milk from the grated coconut.

Step 9

After opening the lid of the cooker, add the coconut milk.

Step 10

:- The milk should have sufficient thickness as the gravy should not be too watery.

Step 11

:- Don`t allow this to boil.

Step 12

Simmer for 2 minutes on low flame.

Step 13

Switch off the stove.

Step 14

Season it with coconut oil, curry leaves and coriander leaves.
