Kerala Style Idiyappam also termed “Nool Puttu” is a traditional styled breakfast dish quite popular in Kerala Cuisine. These are basically string hoppers that go well with any gravy based vegetarian or non-vegetarian curry dishes. These are common breakfast dishes prepared from rice dough and pressed through a seviyan. Kerala Nool Puttu recipe gives you a very smooth and soft idiyappam that tastes great with any kurma or curry based dishes. I love Kerala Style Idiyappam right from my childhood and mom makes it a point to prepare the dish at least twice a week. I used to relish Nool Puttu with some warm milk and sugar and even now I prefer so though it is viewed strangely by others who share my table. Kerala Nool Puttu can also be served with slightly thinned coconut milk sweetened with jaggery or sugar. Preparing Idiyappam is very easy provided you follow a few helpful hints.

Add hot boiling water to roasted rice flour for preparing the rice dough and do not burn your hands. These are basic recipes for beginners in kitchen that act as quintessential tools. There are lots of variations for preparing Idiyappam dish but I am dealing with the basic recipe here. Once you are familiar with the basics, you can go on to other combinations of Idiyappam. Kerala Style Idiyappam is a healthy and wholesome dish that requires steaming. Very few ingredients are required for preparing the dish. Another vital point in preparing soft Kerala Style Idiyappam is using good quality rice flour. Buy appam podi or idiyappam podi from local stores. If you are using raw rice flour, remember to roast well. While roasting raw flour, do not burn the bottom of vessel. Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Rice flour 400 g) (dry roasted and sieved, Ari podi
  • 2 tbsp Grated coconut
  • Boiling water As reqd
  • Salt As reqd
  • Oil A little

Instructions
 

  • Add boiling water and salt to the flour and knead to a soft dough.
  • Divide it into small balls and keep aside.
  • Lightly grease the idiappam press mould and put in one portion of the dough. Press out the dough to form small circular mounds (resembling thin noodles) onto each of the iddiappam stands.
  • Steam for about 10 minutes till the idappam is cooked. (A pressure cooker, without the weight, can be used for steaming. An idli stand is a good substitute for the idiappam stands.)

    No need of grated coconut.This is used only for fussy children.Eat with anthing that has semi gravy.Enjoyed best with egg roast. BBBBBut where is the recipe .Will some one help?

    Grated coconut u can use when iddiappam is steaming on that top u can sprinkle it, otherwise take a milk from grated coconut add jaggery
