Step 1

Clean the rice and red gram and soak it in water.

Step 2

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in the pressure cooker.

Step 3

Add fenugreek seeds followed by cloves, pepper, cinnamon and
cumin seeds.

Step 4

Add onions and crushed ginger, chillies and garlic and saute it.

Step 5

Add chilly powder, coriander powder, asafoetida, garam masala and salt and mix well.

Step 6

Add tomatoes, mix well and cook for 3 - 4 mins.

Step 7

Drain off the water from rice and red gram and add it to the mixture in the cooker.

Step 8

Mix well and cook for 5 mins.

Step 9

Keep stirring so that it doesn`t stick to the bottom of the cooker.

Step 10

Add enough water (appx. 7 cups) so that there is a layer of 1.5 cm of water floating on top of the rice-dal mixture.

Step 11

Mix well and then close the cooker with it`s lid.

Step 12

Pressure cook upto 3 whistles.

Step 13

:- Serve hot with curd and pickle.


Food is very tasty with curd.
