Aloo-Dal Curry Easy curry for chappathis with Potatoes and Dal 3 nos Potato (cut into pieces)1 cup Dal (Parippu)2 cups Grated coconut4 nos Small onions4 nos Garlic pods½ tsp Turmeric powder1 ½ Chilly powder2 tsp Coriander powder½ tsp Garam masala powderSalt (As reqd)For seasoning:-1 tsp Mustard seeds3 nos Small onions (optional)(finely chopped)Curry leaves (A few)3 nos Dry red chillies – 2 (Kollamulaku)1 tbsp Coconut oil Cook dal and potatoes along with sufficient water and salt in a pressure cooker.Heat up a pan or a kadai.Dry roast the grated coconut along with sliced small onions and garlic.When done, reduce the flame to minimum and add coriander powder, chilly powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder.Roast for a few seconds stirring continuously and switch off the flame.Allow this to cool.Grind it to a fine paste in a mixer grinder.Add the paste into the dal-potato mix and mix well.Add sufficient water. Mix well and simmer it for a few mins.:- Check the level of salt and adjust, if necessary.When the desired consistency is required, remove from the flame.Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.Splutter mustard seeds and sautT dry red chillies and curry leaves.Add the above seasoning into the gravy and mix well.:- Serve warm with rotis or chappathis.
