Bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele onion chutney is prepared by roasting grated coconut, chana dal, spices and finally ground before seasoning
For preparing bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele onion chutney, first heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and fry cinnamon, clove, cardamon and aniseed.
Add red chilly, chana dal and fry to a light brown color.
Add onion and fry till golden brown. Stir in chopped tomatoes, salt and saute for a few minutes.
Cool the fried coconut mixture and grind in a mixie with some water.
For seasoning, heat some oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds. Add urad dal, curry leaves and pour the ground chana dal mix with 1/4 cup of water. Bring to boil and remove from fire.
Bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele onion chutney is ready. Serve with idli or dosa.
