  • Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 3/4 cup
  • Onions(peeled) - 1 cup
  • Potatoes(diced) - 1 cup
  • Peas - 3/4 cup
  • Tomatoes(Large) - 2 nos
  • Tamarind juice - 2 tbsp
  • Salt(As reqd) -
  • Ghee - 3 tbsp
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Bisibele bhath masala powder - 2 tsp

  • Chopped coriander leaves -

  • For bisibele bhath masala powder: -
  • Coriander seeds(Malli) - 2 tsp
  • Fenugreek(Uluva) - 1/4 tsp
  • Cinnamon(Karugapatta) - 1" piece
  • Cloves(Grambu) - 3 nos
  • Cardamom(Elakka) - 1 no

  • For bisibele bhath masala powder: -
  • Coriander seeds(Malli) - 2 tsp
  • Fenugreek(Uluva) - 1/4 tsp
  • Cinnamon(Karugapatta) - 1" piece
  • Cloves(Grambu) - 3 nos
  • Cardamom(Elakka) - 1 no
  • Red chillies(As reqd, Kollamulaku) -

Instructions
  1. For making the masala powder: 1)Roast all the ingredients in little oil, till good smell comes. Add dry coconut and fry for another minute. Grind it and store in a air tight container.
  2. For making Bisibele Bhath: 1)Cook diced potatoes (don`t overcook).
  3. Pressure cook red gram/toor dhal by adding turmeric powder.
  4. Cook rice separately and allow it to cool.
  5. Soak tamarind in water for sometime and then extract the juice.
  6. Heat oil in a pan.
  7. Add little bisibele bhath masala powder.
  8. Add onions and fry them till translucent.
  9. Add tomatoes and cook for another 3 minutes.
  10. Add peas, cooked potatoes and cooked dal.
  11. Add remaining masala powder, tamarind juice and about 1 cup of water and bring it to boil.
  12. Add salt and chilly powder as required.
  13. While boiling, add cooked rice and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  14. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and fresh grated coconut.
  15. Pour little ghee on top.
  16. :- Serve hot.
