Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 3/4 cup Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 1 cup Onions peeled
  • 1 cup Potatoes diced
  • 3/4 cup Peas
  • 2 nos Tomatoes Large
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind juice
  • Salt As reqd
  • 3 tbsp Ghee
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Bisibele bhath masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Chilly powder As reqd
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • Fresh grated coconut
  • For bisibele bhath masala powder:
  • 2 tsp Coriander seeds Malli
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek Uluva
  • 1" piece Cinnamon Karugapatta
  • 3 nos Cloves Grambu
  • 1 no Cardamom Elakka
  • Red chillies As reqd, Kollamulaku
  • Grated dry coconut

Instructions
 

  • For making the masala powder: 1)Roast all the ingredients in little oil, till good smell comes. Add dry coconut and fry for another minute. Grind it and store in a air tight container.
  • For making Bisibele Bhath: 1)Cook diced potatoes (don`t overcook).
  • Pressure cook red gram/toor dhal by adding turmeric powder.
  • Cook rice separately and allow it to cool.
  • Soak tamarind in water for sometime and then extract the juice.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add little bisibele bhath masala powder.
  • Add onions and fry them till translucent.
  • Add tomatoes and cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Add peas, cooked potatoes and cooked dal.
  • Add remaining masala powder, tamarind juice and about 1 cup of water and bring it to boil.
  • Add salt and chilly powder as required.
  • While boiling, add cooked rice and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and fresh grated coconut.
  • Pour little ghee on top.
  • :- Serve hot.
