Channa Dal(Split Bengal Gram)Papaya Curry

Channa Dal Papaya curry is a traditional kerala recipe.Channa dal is a common ingredient used to make vegetable curries.Here is one recipe where I have used channa dal along with raw papaya.it tastes best with steamed rice.

  • Channa dal - 100 g
  • Papaya - 1 small
  • Green chilly - 1
  • Turmeric powder - 3/4 tsp
  • Salt(to taste) -
  • Water - 2 cup
  • For seasoning: -
  • Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Dry red chilly - 3
  • Shallots(chopped) - 4

Instructions
  1. Whash the channa dal
  2. Cut the papaya into small pieces.
  3. Take a pressure cooker add channa dal,pappaya,turmeric powder,green chilly and salt
  4. Add water and close the lid.wait for 5 whistles to come.
  5. For seasoning heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard in it.add shallots,dry red chilly, saute for few seconds and turn off the flame
  6. Mix it with the curry
  7. Channa Dal papaya curry is ready to serve.it goes well with steamed rice.
