Easy Homemade Hummus

A

Easy Homemade Hummus is a popular middle eastern dip or spread made with chickpeas. A basic hummus recipe is made with cooked chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic and olive oil. All the ingredients that go in the making of hummus are healthy. Making hummus from scratch is easy and you can just whip it up easily in a food processor or blender. This is my favorite Easy Homemade Hummus that tastes awesome with pita bread and kabab. With a few basic tricks you can surely prepare creamy homemade hummus that is definitely better than store bought ones. This is a hundred percent vegan and healthy side dish made with natural ingredients. Chickpeas or garbanzo beans are the base for hummus. After bending, the softened chickpeas break down into a creamy texture. Instead of canned chickpeas, go for home cooked chickpeas that gives a better flavor.

Now you will not be familiar with Tahini sauce. Tahini is actually ground sesame seeds that makes the flavor of hummus awesome. So, don’t skip out on tahini. Tahini grants a zesty and slightly tangy flavor to hummus. You can use store bought tahini sauce. Of course you can prepare tahini sauce from scratch at home. That will ensure a hundred percent feel and surety for Easy Homemade Hummus. Fresh lemon juice is another basic requirement for an excellent hummus recipe. Fresh garlic cloves also add a zest and some spice. Adding a little bit of curd completes the dish. Now process the ingredients in a blender to a smooth, creamy Hummus. I love to drizzle some cold water while the processor is still running for a smoother and more creamier texture. The water turns the already smooth mixture into a fluffier and more luxurious rich dip. You can discover a well detailed Easy Homemade Hummus recipe here that can be easily prepared at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Chana (Vella Kadala)
  • 2 Tbsp Lemon juice
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Tahini paste
  • 6 Tbsp Water
  • 1 Tbsp Curd
  • Olive oil
  • As reqd Salt

Instructions

  • Rinse dried chickpeas in water first and then soak in enough water overnight for 8 to 9 hours. After soaking, the chickpeas will double in size and volume. Next day, rinse the chickpeas in water a couple of times. Drain all the water and add the chickpeas in a 2 litre pressure cooker. Add ½ teaspoon salt. Add 3-4 cups water and pressure cook it for 5 whistles.
  • When the pressure settles down on its own in the cooker, remove the lid and check the chickpeas.
  • Take a food processor or blender and add yogurt, garlic, lemon juice and tahini paste. Both tahini and sesame seeds work very well while making hummus. I have used both tahini as well as sesame seeds at different times – and both of them give a good taste. So in this recipe you can add either tahini or sesame seeds.
  • Grind or blend till smooth and light. If you are unable to grind, then add 2 to 3 tablespoons water. Add salt if required. Hummus is ready now and all you need is to scrape the jar and place hummus in a serving bowl or bowls.
  • While serving make a round pattern with a spoon on the hummus. Drizzle a bit of extra virgin olive oil. Garnish with a few chopped olives. Serve hummus with pita bread or with steamed or roasted veggies. Remaining Hummus can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
