Easy Idichakka Thoran

  • For preparing Idichakka Thoran, remove the skin off the idichakka and cut into small pieces.
  • Cook it along with turmeric powder and salt.
  • Place grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves in a mixer bowl and run it once to make it into a coarse form.
  • Similarly, place the cooked idichakka pieces in the mixer bowl and run it just once to mince it again.
  • :- Make sure that the idichakka is not overcooked as the whole thing may get mashed.
  • Mix together the coconut mixture and the minced idichakka.
  • Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and saute red chillies, plain rice and curry leaves.
  • Lower the flame, stir in cooked idichakka mixture, cover and cook for about 2 mins.
  • Remove the lid and stir well.
  • Continue to cook, till done.
  • :- Make sure Idichakka Thoran doesn't get mashed.

    Garlic can be avoided. Also use at least 1 tsp perumjeeragam instead of using cumin.

    No garlic added in traditional preparation
