Elephant Yam Fry / Varuval

Elephant Foot Yams can be used to prepare a variety of dishes like yam roast, masiyal, kootu, chutney, kababs, cutlets etc. senaikizhangu varuval is the best side dish for the rice. This is a simple yam stir fry with flavors coming from the spices, onions, garlic and coconut.

  • peel the yam and cut into small pieces
  • half boil the yam in the pan by adding some water
  • filter the boiled yam from water
  • in a mixie jar add onion, red chilli, coconut, garlic, salt, turmeric powder, fennel seed and make a paste
  • make a fine paste
  • in a pan add coconut paste and fry it
  • add half boiled yam and mix well
  • add required oil , mix well and fry it in medium flame
  • fry the until it get cooked and turn into golden brown
  • elephant yam varuval is ready to serve
