Gothambu Payasam is a traditional styled Onam dish, very tasty and appealing with a slight crunch of the fried coconut and cashew bits. Gothambu Payasam tastes heavenly and you will definitely ask for more. Cooking the dish in a pressure cooker saves much time and effort. While cooking in cooker makes sure that the broken wheat is not overcooked and mushy, since cooking has to be continued for a few more minutes with coconutmilk. For preparing the tasty payasam, first pressure cook the cleaned broken wheat with 3 ½ cup of water. Cook it on high flame for 6-7 whistles. Let the pressure be released on its own and open the cooker.
Meanwhile melt jaggery in ½ cup of water and make it completely melted.
Pour the melted jaggery syrup into the cooked wheat through a strainer(arippa).
