Instructions
  1. soak green gram in water over night
  2. in the morning grind the soaked green gram in mixie adding a pinch of salt . let the batter be like a dosa batter
  3. now steam the batter like idlies in idly plates for 15 minutes (medium flame)
  4. let the steamed idlies cool down
  5. after it cools break it and shred it finely
  6. to it add the grated coconut
  7. also add cardamom powder
  8. to it add the thick jaggery syrup and mix well ..now our green gram puttu is ready
  9. jaggery syrup can be prepared by heating a cup of jaggery with little water
  10. when the jaggery dissolves completely strain it and add to the puttu
Recipe Notes

if you cant shred the idlies in hand you can just divide it 3 or 4 pieces and run it in a mixie to give a good texture of puttu
