  • Oats(soaked and drained) - 100 g
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Shallots(finely chopped, Kunjulli) - 3 nos
  • Red chilly(cut in half) - 1 no
  • Ginger(chopped) - 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida(A pinch, Kayam) -
  • Coconut(grated) - 1/4 cup
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut oil - 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt(As reqd) -

Instructions
  1. For preparing healthy oats upma, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  2. When the mustard seeds splutter, add urad dal, shallots, ginger, red chilly and and curry leaves.
  3. When the urad dal is golden brown in color, add soaked oats, required salt and asafoetida.
  4. Mix well and cook covered in low flame till done. Stir in between.
  5. Now add the grated coconut, mix gently and serve hot.
  6. Oats upma, a healthy breakfast recipe for kids as well as elders, is ready.
