Kerala Parippu Curry is a Sadhya styled traditional dish, very popular in Kerala. The spicy, aromatic dish is a favorite with all especially kids. This is one of the easiest dishes that can be prepared in a jiffy, when time is short and you want to prepare something healthy and nutritious for your family. Red gram dal is the main ingredient for the tasty dish. The dish goes well with rice and ghee combination. Pressure cooked dal is blended with a spicy coconut mixture and seasoned. Parippu Curry is rich in protein and other vital nutrients and is thus a healthy nutritious dish especially for growing up kids. Kids love the rice dal combination. No Sadhya is ever complete without Parippu Curry.

  • For preparing the healthy dish, first pressure cook red gram dal in sufficient water, along with salt and turmeric powder. Cook until soft.
  • Meanwhile, grind coconut into a fine paste with green chillies, garlic & cumin seeds.
  • Add this paste into the cooked dal.
  • :- Cook again for 2 - 3 minutes in low flame until the raw smell of coconut goes away. You can also skip the addition of raw coconut if you do not like the taste of coconut.
  • Stir in 2 tsp of coconut oil and a few curry leaves to the parippu curry and stir well.
  • :- Serve the dish with hot rice and ghee. The dish is very nutritious and healthy especially for growing up kids.
  • Enjoy the curry .

    I tried the same exact way,but if you put that much turmeric all u can taste & smell is turmeric.Otherwise it is ok.

    Kerala style parippu curry is made with moong dal. Not Thoor dal. I am sure the recipe works well, but you will not get the dish you intended to make if you change the fundamental ingredient.
