In this article we will delve how to create the tantalizing dish in the comfort of your kitchen.

Origins Of Kerala Pepper Chicken

Kerala Pepper Chicken traces its origin and roots back to the ‘land of spices’ that is Kerala. Blessed with a range of aromatic spices like pepper, cardamom and cloves, it is no surprise that Kerala has mastered the art of enhancing the flavors using these spices. Also termed ‘Kurumulaku Kozhi’, the dish highlights the use of black pepper, that adds a peppery zing to the dish.

Traditional Preparation Methods

The preparation of the delicacy involves careful cooking techniques and a harmonious blend of spices. Bite sized chicken pieces are marinated with a mixture of black pepper, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric and required salt for over an hour. The marinated chicken is then slow cooked in a spicy aromatic gravy. Slow cooking allows the flavors to infuse deep into the chicken bits.

Tips For Cooking Kerala Pepper Chicken

To achieve a perfect Kerala Pepper Chicken, here are some tips to keep in mind. Use freshly ground pepper for maximum flavor. Allow chicken to marinate for at least an hour to ensure that the spices penetrate the flesh. Also slow cook in low flame to ensure that chicken becomes tender and the flavors are properly absorbed. Adjust the level of spiciness according to your preference, some prefer mildly spiced while some prefer peppery hot. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander leaves for adding freshness.

Serving Suggestions:

Kerala Pepper Chicken pairs well with hot steamed rice, appam(a traditional South Indian pancake) or porotta(layered flatbread). The combination of peppery chicken with these mildly flavored accompaniments creates a wonderful culinary experience. You can also serve a side of raita or any freshly prepared green salad to balance the spiciness.

Conclusion:

Kerala Pepper Chicken is an exceptional gastronomic delight that showcase the culinary heritage of Kerala. You can easily prepare the dish at home and savor the authentic flavors of the dish. So, get ready, put on your apron and embark on a culinary journey. Your taste buds will be thankful to you.
