Cabbage stir fry also popularly known as Cabbage Thoran is a dry dish-stir fry using coconut, an usual vistor in Kerala regular meal. This simple stir fried cabbage dish is quick to make and goes well with almost any main Indian dish. Thoran is one of the many dishes in the Onam Sadya menu and also the heart of Kerala Cuisine. Cabbage Thoran is a stir fry. Apart from cabbage, you can also use some other veggies to prepare thoran.
Mix the chopped Cabbage pieces along with other ingredients, i.e. Grated Coconut, Sliced Onion, Sliced Green Chilli, Sliced Ginger, Red Chilli powder, Curry leaves and Salt and keep this mix separately for about 5 – 10 minutes.
Heat Oil in a Frying pan/Cheenachatty and then add the mix of Cabbage pieces and other ingredients.
Add some Turmeric Powder also into this mix and stir the mix well.
Cover the Frying pan/Cheenachatty with a plate and allow to cook the mix in medium flame (please do not add water in this mix to cook it).
When the mix is cooked properly (generally, it will take about 10-15 minutes to cook the mix), put off the stove and remove the Frying pan/Cheenachatty from the stove.
Cabbage Thoran is ready and this Thoran can serve along with Chappathi/Poori and cooked Rice.
