Kuttanadan Seer Fish-Surmai Fish Fry(Meen)

Seer Fish/Vanchiram/Arkoli fish pieces are marinated in a mixture of chilly powder, crushed pepper, lemon juice, other ingredients and deep fried with curry leaves

Ingredients
  

  • 250 g Fish cut into medium sized pieces, Seer fish/Ney Meen
  • 1 1/4 tsp Pepper crushed
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chilly flakes
  • 3/4 tsp Lemon juice
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • 1/4 cup Curry leaves
  • Oil For frying
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing kuttanadan fish fry, first pat dry the washed fish pieces.
  • Take a bowl and combine crushed pepper, chilly powder, chilly flakes, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste and required salt. If the paste is too dry, add some oil instead of water.
  • Apply the chilly mixture on the drained fish pieces and marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan. Add curry leaves and place fish pieces on top.
  • Fry fish to a golden brown color. Kuttanadan Seer Fish/Surmai/Vanchiram/Arkoli fish fry, a delicacy of the coastal belt, is ready. Serve hot with fried curry leaves.

    I had to double the recipe as i had more fish. Works perfectly and delicious. I used some coconut oil to smoothen the marinade mixture.
