Manathakkali Kuzhambu

This is a simple kuzhambu prepared with manathakkali. It is a typical Tamil Brahmin Iyer style recipe without onion and garlic.

Instructions
  1. chop the onion, garlic and curry leaves
  2. chop the tomato
  3. clean and wash the manathakkali
  4. in a kadai heat the oil and castor oil and temper the mustard, broken urad dal, cumin seed and fenugreek seed
  5. now add manathakkali and garlic and saute it for 3 mins
  6. add onion and curry leaves and saute it for 3 mins
  7. add tomato and mix well
  8. add salt, turmeric and asafoetida and mix it
  9. now add sambar powder and kuzhambu milagai powder and mix it
  10. add tamarind water and allow to cook for 5 mins
  11. now add coconut paste, mix it and allow to cook until it becomes gravy consistency
  12. now manathakkali kuzhambu is ready, serve with rice and vadagam
