Muthira chutney/ Horse gram chutney is a healthy chutney to accompany it with any south Indian breakfast dishes. Horse gram have many nutritional value and this wonderful beans is good for dieting and very much good for diabetics. It is a regional food recipe of Karnataka usually served with Ragi rotti or akki rotti’s, especially in rainy or winter season. A simple and easy to make chutney recipe, which is very healthy and tasty.
Heat Oil/Ghee in a Cheenachatti/Frying pan and add the Curry leaves and Red Chilli into this hot Oil/Ghee and stir it for about one minute.
Then add the Horse Gram (Muthira), Red Gram, Garlics and Corriander also and roast them in medium flame.
When colour of this mix turns into golden/brown, put off the stove and change the roasted ingredients into a plate and keep it some time to cool the ingredients.
After about ten minutes, change the roasted ingredients into a mixer/Ammikkal and grind them properly, adding required quantity of Tamarind juice, Salt and Water.
Muthira (Horse Gram) Chammanthi is ready. This Chammanthi can serve with dosa/Idly/
Uppuma/Chappathi etc.
